SLU’s Annual Lavender Graduation Set for May 15

04/30/2024

The Cross-Cultural Center for Global Citizenship in the Division of Diversity and Innovative Community Engagement is partnering with SLU’s Rainbow Alliance to host this year’s Lavender Graduation.

Now in its third year, the event begins at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, in the Center for Global Citizenship. Lavender Graduation is open to all graduating students who identify as LGBTQ+ and their allies.

“Celebrating the intersectionality of our students’ identities is core to creating a space of belonging and is inclusive of some of the most important work that we do,” said Rochelle Smith, SLU’s vice president for diversity and innovative community engagement. “We look forward to celebrating the academic and leadership achievements of our queer student community.”

Richard Marks, Ed.D., director of the Cross Cultural Center for Global Citizenship, added that Lavender Graduation offers students a time to reflect on the unique experiences and challenges they’ve faced and to revel in the support and love that surrounds them at SLU.

“This event is all about celebrating the incredible accomplishments and contributions of LGBTQ+ students in a warm and inclusive space for our community to unite,” Marks said. “It's not just a celebration of diversity and resilience; it's a powerful testament to the success and pride of our community.”

To attend this year’s Lavender Graduation, complete to register for the event. The deadline to register is 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 8.
